ABSTRACT

MURK explores parables of industry and environmental catastrophe in tandem to regenerative/degenerative growth. The work mediates between metaphorical moments of stagnation and flow as indicators of proliferating systems of consumption, exploitation, and complacency, hosting various life forms. “Work the Murk” is the mantra of both survival and extinction in a dystopian realm where biological systems parasite off of each other.

As a sprawling narrative, MURK moves through diverse territories, perspectives, and formal configurations, continuously manifesting, forever coming into being. The work is constantly expressing itself in a different way, a different arrangement, a different layout, a different kinetic, a new dynamic. From narrative, to short story, to poetry, to propaganda, the varied strategies in MURK work as an all-encompassing monstrum, always changing, forever in flux.

The main element of MURK is the swamp, a body of water of unruly scale, restored and disturbed by weather conditions (rains, floods, hurricanes, etc.) and by urban infrastructure (drains, sewage, bayous, etc.). The swamp is the site of consumption and production, and the problematized ontology for autonomous strategies and sustainable development.

GREYMAR Publishers presents a satirical novel of prehistoric inhabitants living in post-apocalyptic sprawl..."Someday, shaved heads will be the norm and long hair will be socially unacceptable; unfortunately, we are ahead of our times…Cavemen and cavewomen lined the aisles of 59 an 45, heading north into Ward D. Weather was typical: smog-filled skies with a 10% chance of acid rain. My reinforced, neoprene hoodie was starting to show considerable burn and tear [...] Like they say around here: you scratch my acid-rain-blistering-back and I scratch your acid-rain-smoldering-feet. Cheap rent, but work the murk..."  Order MURK
